Every day you’re constantly bombarded with pressure, demands, deadlines, meeting other people’s needs. Your mind ends up in a frantic whirl and your body feels tense. Sometimes you feel SO tired, others wired and you just can’t relax.
You’re human after all! And the human body needs fuel and movement … and rest.
And it’s this third need that all too often gets overlooked in modern life! (And slumping in front of the TV is NOT truly restful by the way!)
If you don’t get enough rest, your body and mind get stuck in a stressed state.
When you are in continual stress-mode, your immune system is suppressed, your digestive system runs poorly, and your muscles are in a constant state of hyper-vigilance getting ready to fight, run or freeze in the presence of danger. (Read more about the hidden costs of stress here.)
Why Essential Rest?
This is why I offer this Essential Rest class: a deeply soothing class where we focus on releasing and relaxing on a deep level and resting in stillness to relieve the stresses and strains of everyday life.
It gives you the chance to slow down and to be guided to reach a deeply relaxed state which can be hard to do for yourself.
- Simple movements to release tension from the body
- Yoga Nidra (aka Yogic Sleep) to take you into states of deep relaxation which have been shown to facilitate the release of the effects of stress; the integration of emotional experiences; and to bring about deep healing and restoration for body and mind.
- Sound healing.
This practice is slow and mindful and still. It enables deep rest and relaxation.
