I often feel incredibly peaceful … yet sometimes I feel unsettlingly angry.

And I’ve been reflecting on these feelings, the sense of disconnection that so many people feel in so many ways (which I’ve certainly felt myself), and also I’ve been thinking about  why I do what I do as a teacher and writer. Here’s the result of my reflections. I hope this inspires you…

My ‘why’

Stella Tomlinson meditation and yoga: living in rhythm

After much soul-searching I’ve come to realize that my soul’s calling is to guide and inspire sensitive, soulful people like you and me to connect to inner peace by learning to live in rhythm with the flow of life, in alignment with our needs as high sensitives.

Because I’ve come to believe (and feel in my bones) that the epidemic of stress, anxiety and depression in Western cultures – which I have experienced myself – is due to a profound sense of disconnection.

Disconnection from our bodies; disconnection from the natural rhythms, energies and ebbs and flows of circadian rhythms, the menstrual cycle, the lunar cycle and the cycles and seasons of the year.

Disconnection from the joy of simple, sustainable living in accordance with nature.

Disconnection from our heart and soul – firmly lodging us in our head and our fretful mind, at the mercy of our over-stimulated nervous system.

All this disconnection is a path to burnout and ill health … via stress, anxiety and depression.

Do you feel it too?

Why I’m angry

And do you know what? This enforced sense of disconnection makes me feel angry.

Angry that those who profit from our distraction-addicted, materialistic, planet-trashing, power-grabbing culture have cut us off from what feels true and meaningful just to line their pockets by keeping us enslaved in a way of living which causes deep harm to our souls.

Hence the epidemic of mental health issues and auto-immune disorders.

Hence those of us who are highly sensitive may be feeling overwhelmed by the pain in which the world is becoming engulfed.

And it makes me sad to see and feel this.

And, it makes me angry.

Why I’m living in rhythm

But I am committed not to let that anger eat me up or defeat me. Instead I vow to transmute its energy to make a difference.

To live MY life in connection to the natural cycles of life; to connect to the peace which lies within my heart and soul – which is my true nature and yours; and to inspire and enable as many people as possible to do the same.

So, I believe that in our stressed, pressured, busy culture we need space and time to be.

To reconnect with our bodies; to reconnect to our breath; to reintegrate body, mind and soul; and to quieten the din of external stimuli and our anxious, analysing noisy mind so we can hear the inner, intuitive voice of wisdom guiding us to reconnect to our own needs; the natural rhythms and cycles of the day, month and year; and to live radiant, joyful lives based on meaningful connection.

I’ve asked myself, how I can play my role in forging this reconnection?

This is how: what I can offer you and the world through my writing and teaching is to share some ways to reconnect through movement, rest, meditation, guided self-reflection, and cycle and seasonal awareness.

Why we can make a difference

We live in “interesting times” don’t we? The amount of change and chaos going on across the world can feel terrifying.

But I believe that there are more and more of us who are waking up to the knowledge that we can’t carry on like this. For the sake of our own individual sanity and soul, as well as for the sake of the collective, delicately inter-woven life systems on this planet.

As you’re reading this, I feel you are one of these people too.

I know that you may have challenges in your personal life and that the global challenges we’re facing may feel overwhelming.

Please know and trust that the little shifts and changes you make in your thoughts and words and actions DO make a difference. They ripple out in ways we may never see or appreciate.

My dearest wish for you is to connect and come home to the deep love and wisdom, which is in your heart and soul.

Let us support each other when it all seems too much (because I have days like that too!).

Keep going; keep connecting; keep spreading the peace, which lies within you, out into this world.
